Some sort of receipt highly desirable. On the other hand I suppose, if living away from home, it cannot be disputed that you need to spend money on accomodation of some sort. As said, best to ask the brolly.

Indeed, Mal is correct with the terminology - however no tax is being evaded or avoided - by not giving a reciept, the OP is kindly paying the tax that the Landlord should indeed be paying.
